The São Miguel Island has no shortage of beautiful natural landscapes. But Lagoa do Fogo is able to carry the most stunning local medal in the region, and is also the second largest lake on the São Miguel Island.
Classified as a Natural Reserve, Lagoa do Fogo is a crater lake located in the centre of São Miguel Island.
São Miguel offers a great variety of walks with spectacular scenery. However, the trail to Lagoa do Fogo is the most beautiful and is without a doubt an experience not to be missed. This stunning body of water is surrounded by lush vegetation and is the perfect spot to explore during the day.
The walk to Lagoa do Fogo is over for 10km but well worth it. Along this trail you can enjoy the incredible scenery and after a walk of approximately four and a half hours, you even reach the banks of this beautiful and impressive lake, where you can enjoy the Lagoa de Fogo Beach - recognized in 2012 as one of the 7 Wonders of Portugal in the Wild Beach category.
